Bespoke Restoration & Replication of Historic Embossed Wallcoverings
Reconstructing lost heritage through scholarship, materials science and precision craftsmanship.
A thorough and critical understanding of historic building materials - encompassing original interior surface treatments, decorative finishes and applied wallcoverings - is an indispensable prerequisite for any conservation or restoration programme that aspires to the highest standards of authenticity. Material knowledge and interpretive accuracy are, at Lincrusta Heritage, foundational to every commission we undertake.
Where original embossed wallcovering survives in situ in a condition permitting intervention, our conservators undertake the meticulous stabilisation, repair and authentic reinstatement of the material, with careful reference to surviving evidence of original colouration and surface treatment. Where material has deteriorated beyond the threshold of viable repair, or where sections have been removed entirely, our scope of practice extends to encompass comprehensive replication.
The Application ofAdvanced Technology to Historic Conservation
Lincrusta Heritage provides a bespoke wallcovering replication service designed to address situations in which original material is irretrievably lost, damaged beyond conservation, or unavailable through any existing commercial source. Through the integration of specialist imaging analysis, three-dimensional scanning methodologies and the production ofprecision engineered replication moulds, we are able to reproduce historic designs to a standard of fidelity that is materially and visually indistinguishable from the original.
This service extends to circumstances in which no physical material survives whatsoever. In a significant number of documented cases, a single high-quality historic photograph has proved sufficient to initiate the process of design identification and subsequent replication.
The bespoke replication process encompasses the following stages:
Systematic design identification from photographic records, fragmentary samples or archival documentation
Digital pattern reconstruction employing specialist imaging and analytical software
Three-dimensional replication and the manufacture of bespoke production moulds
Material fabrication using historically validated and conservation-appropriate specialist materials
Professional installation by trained and accredited conservators
